Rose of Sharon

Rose of Sharon is a drought tolerant
flowering shrub that can grow up to
10' tall and with a spread from 4 to 6'
depending on the variety. Rose of Sharon blooms
profusely from late June through September
providing color when other shrubs have ceased
blooming. Blooms may be white, red, lavendar
or light blue with single or double blooms.

Although naturally a multi-stemmed shrub, it may be pruned in late winter to have one main (tree-like) trunk. Rose of Sharon prefers full sun and well drained soil. It may be pruned as a hedge; however, as a deciduous shrub, it loses it's foliage at the end of the growing season so it may be an effective privacy hedge only in summer.
